  • How to measure firewood
  • “Cured” means
    • Split & stored Year-1 minimum
    • Moisture is mostly gone
    • Only the combustible oils remain
    • Additional “Curing” is of no benefit
    • Most species store well through Year-3
    • Oak begins to deteriorate after Year-2
  • “Green” means recently cut
    • Burns slow
    • Hard to start
  • “Dry” means protected from rain
  • Hardwoods
    • Best for heating
    • Oak, Madrone, Laurel, etc.
    • Eucalyptus – starts hard & burns longer
    • Mix of species varies by season
    • Sorting the pile is ok if you pick up
  • Softwood 
    • Good crackle & pop – less heat
    • Good for “effect” or outside fire pit
    • Pine, Fir, & Redwood
  • Deliveries are either randomly
    • Mixed Hardwood or
    • Mixed Softwood
    • Sorting the pile is ok if you pick up
  • Tarps or sheds recommended for storage
  • Pallets are good for beyond Year-1
